Indian writer Rahul Bhattacharya has won the Ondaatje Prize for fiction for his book The Sly Company of People Who Care.

The book has also won Hindu Literary Prize for Best Fiction 2011 and was also shortlisted for the Commonwealth Book Prize 2012.

Nick Laird, the Judge waxed eloquent about the book, "On almost every page there were little stylistic twists or felicities which had me stopping to admire them"

The Ondaatje is an annual award for a distinguished work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, evoking the spirit of a place; awarded by Britain's Royal Society of Literature.
