Rushdie to skip first day of Jaipur fest, organisers caution

After the much-hyped visa row around author Salman Rushdie's India visit, seems like the author is having second thoughts about his visit. According to the organizers, he won't be attending the first day of the festival.

While the organizers stay mum on the reason behind the controversy surrounding his visit, they have confirmed that the author won't attend the festival on January 20th.

According to a statement issued by the Statement from DSC Jaipur Literature Festival Producer Mr. Sanjoy Roy, "Salman Rushdie will not be in India on 20th Jan due to a change in his schedule. The festival stands by its invitation to Mr Rushdie."

The Satanic Verses author, who has often courted controversies for his 'blasphemous' works was supposed to be in a discussion on Midnight's Child' with Hari Kunzru on the first day. Speculations are on whether he will attend his next session, Inglish, Amlish, Hinglish: The Chutneyfication of English'  on  21st Jan.
