Author Salman Rushdie has won a tussle with Facebook over his profile page on the social network.

Rushdie’s run-in with Facebook stemmed from his insistence he be allowed to use his middle name — Salman, the one he is universally known by — instead of his first name — Ahmed.

Rushdie recounted the saga in a series of tweets on Monday. “Facebook deactivated my account because they thought I wasn't me,” Rushdie said in a post on his Facebook page. “Now they insist I call myself by the first name I have never used. What a bunch of morons.”

He sent a photograph of his passport, but they "insisted I use the name Ahmed". http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/HTEditImages/Images/16-11-11-metro19b.jpg

Rushdie then turned to what he called “ridicule by the Twitterverse”.

So, he threatened publicly to switch to Twitter. And that did the trick. Facebook promptly conceded.

“Victory! #Facebook has buckled! I’m Salman Rushdie again... Thank you Twitter!” he said.
