Pretty and petite MTV VJ Gaelyn Mendonca walks into Ethos, the watch boutique in Sector 8, and instantly fills the Sunday stillness with her spunk. In city to launch Tissot’s new collection, the VJ-turned-actor — who has recently debuted with Rohan Sippy’s Nautanki Saala opposite Chandigarh boy Ayushmann Khurrana – talks about big screen goals and small screen commitments.
“My film is running successfully and it is such a nice feeling to see your first film being received well by audiences as well as critics,” says Gaelyn, who has done shows like Tic Tac, College Beat, One Short Plot, Wassup and House of Style on MTV.
On switching between the jobs of a VJ and actor, Gaelyn says, “As an actor I get to play so
many different characters, while as a VJ I have to be myself. But acting I find is much easier because one gets a script. In VJing one has to constantly reinvent oneself, be spontaneous and keep the audience hooked, it has to come naturally.”
On her future film projects, Gaelyn says, “Post Nautanki Saala, I have been offered a couple of films and I am reading scripts as of now. I want to be a part of fun films and will sign one very soon.”
On television industry getting bigger, the VJ is candid. “Yes, it is, but I cannot play a typical Indian bahu on TV. It will also be contrary to my wacky image.”
But she is quick to add, “Who ever thought MTV is all about wackiness and youngsters having fun, the channel also initiates a lot of social work. We recently did a project wherein 1000 needy children were helped.”
Gaelyn is also going to anchor season II of on-ground MTV Unplugged. “We will tour different cities and host music performances by singers like Shafqat Amanat Ali, Euphoria, Kailash Kher and Benny Dayal. During these tours, the audience get to interact with their favourite singers.”
Before winding up, the vivacious girl shares, “I am going to Ayushmann’s house to catch up with him over coffee.”
