Watching the premiere of the season 10 of the reality show Bigg Boss a few days ago, brought back memories of last year when I too got a chance to be inside the Bigg Boss house for one day. Select media people from Delhi and Mumbai were invited to spend a day inside the Bigg Boss house.
The day turned out to quite an interesting one as one got to live inside the house just like a regular contestant - all our belongings including mobiles were taken away and we were blindfolded before entering the house through the famous ‘Mukhya Dwaar’. As per the rules, we had to speak in Hindi only and had to wear the mikes on all time.
Bigg Boss also ensured that we got a chance not only to carry out certain tasks inside the house, but also to nominate people and be inside the confession room too. Besides getting to see the much-talked-about house, we also got to know about some unknown and interesting facts too.
Location: The Bigg Boss house is located in Lonavala. Hidden inside a huge deserted building, you need to clear several rounds of security before getting to see the actual house. In season 10 this time, the area of the house is much bigger than the previous seasons.
Design: Every season sees an absolutely new house designed according to a theme. While some seasons have seen totally absurd ones (as the theme last year was all about ‘Double Trouble’, so the beds and even the dining table chairs were joined and the whole house was full of bright colours). Since this year sees a big twist in the format with the aam aadmi getting a chance to be inside the house just like celebrities, so the theme this time is that of a modern Indian palace. “The Bigg Boss house, this year, has an ethereal look. There is an element of Indian mystique to the décor with a lot of lanterns and earthy tones to bring a homely appeal to the set. And, the house is more colourful and vibrant this time with lots of paintings,” reveals Omung Kumar the co-designer of the house.
Incidentally, a few changes have been done to the interiors of the house this time to create a balanced experience for both the celebrity as well as the common man contestants. The orientation of the living room and the bedroom have been interchanged, with a special seven-sleeper bed space being created for select contestants. A first-time addition is a walk-in closet adorned with full-length mirrors to ensure that the contestants look their absolute best at all times. There’s also a touch of luxury to the Bigg Boss house with the introduction of a jacuzzi corner in the bathroom.
The most prominent addition to the Bigg Boss house this season, however, is the jail. “The jail is a dungeon of sorts for contestants who break the rules. There is a special Indian-style bathroom installed for the qaidis, and an earthen pot along with aluminium plates and mugs to make the entire experience more real,” says Omung Kumar.
The confession room is one place where the contestants can shed all their inhibitions and share their deepest secrets and desires with Bigg Boss. And this year, the contestants get to feel like royalty. The seat is a classic emulation of a King’s throne covered in deep and glittery gold. The walls are covered in deep red, with rustic lamps suspended from the ceiling.
Surveillance: Besides the numerous cameras that cover every nook and corner of the house, there is a camera gully encircling the house where people are manning the cameras 24X7.
Salman’s Chalet: The host for the last seven seasons, Salman Khan, has his own personal space next to the house. The chalet for which again the interiors are changed every year, reflects Salman’s personal style and is full of huge posters of the actor along with family pictures too. The actor uses this space for the weekend shoots and gets his own ‘ghar ka khana’ during his stay there.
Others: The sets of Bigg Boss regional is also situated in the same area. Even Bigg Boss China is shot in this location. There is a snake charmer present 24x7 on the sets as it is surrounded by lots of trees and foliage. A doctor, ambulance and fire brigade is also present 24x7 on the sets. And, the weekend shoot takes place at a floor situated next to the house.
