Filmmaker Karan Johar, who just turned 41, is on the verge of adopting a child. And, he has a lot else on his mind, he tells us in a tête-à-tête.
So how did the birthday go?
Honestly, at 41, I didn’t think there was a need to celebrate my birthday. But a close friend of mine (Aarti Shetty, daughter of entrepreneur Manmohan Shetty) planned a surprise party for me where friends from the industry turned up. It was wonderful and very sweet of everyone. I feel blessed with all the warmth bestowed on me.
Now that you’ve turned 41, do you think this is the right time to adopt a child, as you had once said you’d wish to?
Yes, this is definitely on top of my mind at present. Tell me, who doesn’t want to have a family to extend himself/herself? My mom and I will bring up the child wonderfully. I will take one baby step at the moment, pun intended!
You seem to be one of the most loved people in the industry. What do you have to say about it?
I think I am who I am. Throughout my life, I have valued relationships far more than the professionalism. I care a lot for the industry and its people whether I work with them or not.
You will be soon seen judging a TV dance show, along with Madhuri Dixit and Remo D’souza. Are you a good judge of dance?
I will be focussing on the dancing ability of the contestants, but for me, being the part of a contestant’s journey from a non-dancer to dancer is the most interesting part of judging Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. As far as my co-judges are concerned, all three of us share a cool core chemistry, and that’s what makes the show what it is.
What’s happening to your chat show?
The next season of Koffee with Karan will be out in October, after Jhalak. So whether people like it or not, I’ll be seen on television throughout the year. Meanwhile, I’m also in the process of scripting my next film.
