In the Bedroom
My must-haves for every serious fashionista’s closet:
Statement jewellery: Throw out those boring chandelier earrings. Go bold with gold, neons, rust. Experiment with tribal, jadau and baroque designs.
Dressy pants: A fitted pair for when you have nothing to wear. Another necessity is palazzo pants. It’s like God made pyjamas fashionable!
A body suit: Don’t be scared to wear one. If you are slim, wear one by itself. If you’re curvy, throw on a boyfriend shirt with brogues.
A swimsuit: High-waisted, retro swimsuits from theclosetlabel.com are a must.
A white shirt: Wear it with shorts, pants, skirts, leggings, heck, wear it just as it is with a thin belt. A lifesaver, trust me!
In the kitchen
I like to be a good host. My fridge has…
Chilled vodka: If people drop in for a soirée, just serve chilled vodka in fruity flavours.
Dips: Stock tons of yoghurt-based dips. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t relish them.
Carrots and cucumber: What are you going to serve the dips with? Vegetables are a healthy option.
Eggs: Boil them, fry them, poach them, whip them or just scramble them.
Chocolate: As if you need a reason.
In the Living Room
I love guests, but some behaviour is not cool
I hate it when hosts say, “Feel free to help yourself.” If you call people over, serve them.
Get dressed before the guests arrive. It is impolite to call people over and leave them unattended.
Don’t call that one friend who doesn’t know anyone else.
Don’t serve dinner at 3am. It’s too late.
Some people are vegetarians. Don’t treat them like social outcasts. Keep some grub for them as well.
In the Courtyard
My plan to deal with pesky neighbours
Invite them over for tea and break the ice.
Festivals are a great time to bond. Exchange sweets.
Volunteer to help them. If they are going out of town, offer to water their plants or walk their dog.
Respect their privacy. Don’t pry too much into their private lives.
If everything fails, avoid them. But if you do meet them, greet them. Don’t be curt. It’s not cool.
When the TV is off I…
Cook. I absolutely love cooking Thai food, pastas and grills. I love to experiment.
Dance. I lock myself in a room and do it in front of the mirror. Sometimes my son joins me. We go mad.
Sort out my life.
I rearrange furniture, clean my closet, tidy the kitchen and water my plants.
Read. I pore over the newspaper from the first page to the last. I am addicted.
Sing. I turn on the music and sing the songs out loud. It’s a great stress-buster.
Bedroom and Bath
Don’t watch a sitcom.
1. Shower first. Sit cross-legged on the floor in a place with natural light.
2. Focus your eyes on an object at a distance. Then slowly focus on objects between that object and the tip of your nose. Then look up towards your forehead and when your eyes start feeling heavy, close them.
3. With your eyes closed, breathe in in a set rhythm. Concentrate.
4. Continue for 10 more minutes before letting go.

Don’t watch a drama.Reorganize your closet
Spread the contents of your closet on your bed in such a way that no item of clothing hides another one.
Put away all clothes that you haven’t worn for the last six months in a corner.
Categorise your contents. Put away clothes that don’t fit you or clothes that you bought because they were trendy then. Make a separate pile for clothes that you’re holding on to for sentimental reasons.
Now start putting the items you can’t do without in your closet first, a white shirt, blue jeans, LBDs and other essentials.
Fold the rest of the clothes depending on how often they are used; separate them and keep inside.

Give yourself beauty treatments
Soothe sunburn: You’ll need 4 tea bags, 16 tablespoons of dried mint and 2 cups of water. Place all ingredients in a saucepan and boil. Then, let it sit for 15 minutes. Strain the leaves afterwards and put in a fridge to cool for 20 minutes. Use this to dab on sunburnt areas with a cotton ball.
Brighten your skin: You’ll need 2 tablespoons of sour cream, honey and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply this mixture on your face. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse.
Smoothen your elbows: You’ll need one lemon cut in half and a few teaspoons of sugar. Squeeze out the juice from each lemon. Fill each half with sugar and twist onto the elbow. Repeat three times for 15 minutes.
Pamper your feet: You’ll need lukewarm water, a few drops of shampoo, lime juice and salt. Mix the ingredients into the water and soak your feet for 20 minutes. Then exfoliate with a pumice stone for 15 minutes. Wipe with a towel gently afterwards.
