High point of your life: Playing and enjoying every game of cricket for India, and marrying Priyanka.
Low point of your life:I don’t like to call them low points. Rather, I see them as lessons learnt
Your dream team would include: Legends such as Donlald Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and MS Dhoni
You were the second youngest to lead India in the T20 format. Was it hard?
I’ve always been independent. At a young age, I moved away from home and interacted with boys from different parts of the country at my hostel – that gave me a sense of maturity. Everything I learnt over the years helped during captaincy.
Your favourite teammates?
Ravindra Jadeja and Brendon McCullum.
A pre-match ritual.
Talking to my parents and seeking their blessings.
A body part you’d want to insure.
My eyes, I reckon.
What is the best thing about MS Dhoni as a captain?
He is very honest and remains totally calm under pressure.
What role has your wife Priyanka played in your success?
A very big one. She has supported me through thick and thin, which is important for a smooth and successful career.
How interested is she in your game?
Fortunately, she is a big Lionel Messi fan and doesn’t comment on my game.
After a long tiring day, you enjoy...
Cooking. These days, I am whipping up a lot of veg dishes.
An adventure sport you like.
I tried paragliding in the West Indies a few years ago and loved it. It’s a bit risky, though.
A street food delicacy you can’t resist.
Nothing like Tunday ke kebab.
Your thoughts on marriage.
Marriage is beautiful! But it’s a two-way responsibility and needs a lot of work. You should respect and support your partner, who makes a lot of sacrifices for you.
If you’re stranded on an island, what are the things you would want?
I love fishing, so a fishing line would be nice. Also, I would love to kindle up a barbecue and enjoy the view.
A perfect holiday for you would be…
Just get into the car and go wherever it takes you.
One piece of advice that you have for sports enthusiasts.
Be positive and disciplined. Have the patience to follow your dream. And don’t give up.
Sports Movie: Cinderella (2005)
Cricket ground: Chennai
Comfort food: Kadhi Chawal
Place in your house: A Moroccan-style bar with lots of Bob Marley posters . I like to unwind there
