Highlight Story

After playing the role of a poor girl in the serial Meri Maa aired on Life OK, she is now all set to fit in the shoes of a pampered child of a rich family—the character that Jalandhar girl Avneet Kaur would be playing next on telly tube.

Avneet’s killing smile and beatific expressions won the hearts of the judges on Zee TV’s dance reality show Dance India Dance, in which she had participated, and she will now be back on the same channel. The 11-year-old student of Class 6 has bagged the chance to showcase her acting skills in the upcoming serial, Ek Mutthi Aasmaan, to be aired from August 26 on Zee TV.

On the phone from Mumbai, Avneet talks about the serial, saying, “The show, produced by DJ’s A Creative Unit, is a reality check for Mumbai’s ‘baais’ (a local term for maids). It will beautifully capture the hopes and aspirations of a domestic worker alongside the trials and tribulations of her
daily life.”

Ek Mutthi Aasmaan also features the small screen debut of film actress Shilpa Shirodhkar, who plays the role of a maid. Adds Avneet, “I play Pooki in the serial and Shilpa ma’am plays my maid. My mother in the serial is shown to be a busy socialite who doesn’t take care of me. Meanwhile, the daughter of my maid, Kalpana, feels jealous of me as her mother loves me more than her and is not able to pay attention to her.” Avneet adds that the show would describe how domestic workers mortgage their own lives so that the children of the rich are brought up well.

On growing up, the child actor says she aspires to be like actress Madhuri Dixit. “I want to be a dancer and an actor like Madhuri Dixit,” she quips.

Avneet has many dance reality shows to her credit—from Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’s Season 5 aired on Colors, in which she paired with fellow child actor Darsheel Safari and was the youngest contestant to have participated so far in the reality series—to Dance India Dance Little Masters, aired on Zee TV, in which Avneet was in the top three. The little girl was also seen on another dance reality show—Dance Ke Superstars Season One.

Besides reality shows, she also has some advertisements to her credit and has been seen on a news bulletin called The Weekly Rap on Zee Q, an entertainment channel for children.

Ek Mutthi Aasmaan would be aired from Monday to Friday at 7 pm.
