Four Indian-Americans are among
Forbes 400 Richest People in America, a list topped by Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
The Indians who made the cut include Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla, outsourcing firm Syntel’s founder Bharat Desai, venture capitalist Kavitark Ram
Shriram and software king Romesh Wadhwani.
While Desai ranks 252 with a net worth of $1.6 billion, Khosla occupies the 308th spot in the list with fortunes worth $1.3 billion. Shriram is at 288 with assets worth $1.45 billion and Wadhwani 290 with a total valuation of $1.4 billion.
The list is topped by Gates, who is the richest man in America for the 17th year in a row, with a net worth of $54 billion.
Forbes said the net worth of its rich list climbed 8 per cent this year to $1.4 trillion compared to $1.27 trillion last year.
Wealth rose for 217 members, while 85 saw a decline; 16 new members were added, while 34 people fell off the list in 2010, including Raj Rajaratnam, founder of the Galleon Group hedge fund, who is facing 185 years in prison.
The top 10 on the list gained $24.9 billion. The price of admission to the list is back up to $1 billion from 2009 when $950 million was enough.
