As part of its diversification plans and green initiative, the National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), a Navratna public sector unit, has forayed into wind power sector investing more than Rs. 550 crore.
After commissioning its first wind power plant of 50.4 megawatt (mw) capacity at
Gandikota in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh on December 30 with an investment of Rs. 274 crore, the Bhubaneswar headquartered PSU has decided to set up its second wind power plant of 47.6 mw capacity at Ludarva in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan with an investment of Rs. 283 crore.
Suzlon Energy Limited executed the first wind power plant in Andhra Pradesh while Nalco has entrusted Gamesa Wind Turbine Private Limited to build the plant in Rajasthan.
The second plant, whose foundation stone was laid on January 12, would be completed in eight months, said Nalco assistant general manager Santosh Kumar Mohanty.
“This is the second green initiative of Nalco towards promoting sustainable development by harnessing the unconventional and renewable energy sources,” he said.
