The BSE benchmark Sensex on Monday recovered by nearly 106 points in early trade as stocks led by IT and consumer durable sectors rallied on fresh buying by funds and retailers amid a firming trend in the Asian region.

The 30-share barometer rose by 105.64 points, or 0.54%, to
19,347.64.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 24.20 points, or 0.41%, to 5,871.90.

Brokers said fresh round of buying by major players driven by a firming trend on the other Asian bourses buoyed the trading sentiment here.

Besides, covering-up of short positions in view of approaching monthly expiry on Thursday also supported the upside, they said.

Meanwhile in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.20% and Shanghai was 0.43% higher, while Japan's Tokyo Stock market remained closed on Monday for a public holiday.
