LPG cylinder price hike, an 'anti-women policy': BJP
Irrespective of the number of subsidised cooking gas cylinders you may have already consumed in the first six months of this financial year (April 1 to September 30), you are still entitled to three additional subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at Rs. 410.50 (in Delhi) for the
remaining half of the year, or till March 31, 2013 .

However, additional cylinders beyond three LPG cylinders (of 14.2 kg) will have to purchased at the market price of Rs. 921.50 per cylinder, which is more than double the cost of a subsidised cylinder.

“Customers of LPG, including Indane, are eligible for three subsidised domestic cylinders till March 31, 2013,” Indian Oil Corporation clarified on Friday.

“There is, however, no restriction on the number of domestic non-subsidised cylinders that customers can avail beyond the three subsidised LPG refills.”

Effective from October 1, the government announced a scheme restricting the number of subsidised LPG cylinders to six a year.

Because the scheme was made public in the middle of the financial year, consumers as well as dealers were confused over the number of subsidised cylinders that can be availed in the remaining half of the financial year.

For instance, you may have already consumed six or more subsidised LPG cylinders in the first six months of the financial year, which began on April 1, but now, you can still get three more till cylinders till March 31.

Even if you have availed less than six cylinders, you will get only three more in this fiscal.

There will be no cap on the number of non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinders you can avail in a year.

“The cap is only on subsidised cylinders which will be six a year from April 1, 2013,” RS Butola, chairman and managing director, Indian Oil, told HT.

Starting from April 1, 2013, you can order six subsidised LPG cylinders in a year, in accordance with the government's scheme restricting the number of subsidised LPG cylinders to six annually.
