Dubai-based firm Al Fajer has joined hands with Plastics Export Promotion Council (PEPC) to make a strong presence of Indian plastic manufacturers at Arabplast 2013 in Dubai.

Nearly 150 manufacturers and exhibitors from India will particiapte in Arabplast, the fourth largest trade
show in the world, to be held in January 7 to 10.

"India shall have the largest number of participants and our focus will be on developing business ties with Africa, Latin America, ASEAN and CIS countries to boost our exports," said Sanjiv Rai Dewan, regional director, PEPC.

The export from Indian plastic industry (excluding machinery) in 2011-12 was $7 billion, which is 2.3% of India's total exports.

"Our top three trading partners are the UAE, the US and China, and we're targeting a 20% growth, pegging at $8.6 billion exports in 2012-13," Dewan said.

Ministry of commerce and industry has offered a subsidy to participants for buying space in the trade show.

"India needs to increase its per capita plastic consumption, which is 7 kg in comparison to 110 kg of the US, 29 kg of Brazil and 12 kg of China," said Satish Khanna, general manager of Al Fajer, the organiser of Arabplast.
