Ambani not part of PM’s delegation

Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Mukesh Ambani is not part of the high-level business delegation accompanying PM Narendra Modi on his visit to Japan.

Contrary to reports that Ambani would accompanying Modi to Japan, RIL spokesperson said, “Due to prior business commitments that need his presence, Mr Ambani will not be travelling to Japan.”

“As he (Mukesh) had right in the beginning conveyed his regrets to the invitation from the Prime Minister’s Office, there is no question of his opting out of the trip,” said another top source in RIL

While Modi reached Koyto on Saturday, the members of the Indian business delegation will arrive by Sunday afternoon, sources said. The who’s who of India Inc is accompanying him in his visit to Japan.

The visit also assumes significance as Modi, in his Independence Day speech, had exhorted the world to come manufacture in India, and bring in new technologies. Japan can play a key role in meeting this objective.
