It may be time to dust off old recipes and look for dishes that don't need onions.
Putting a major dent on Delhi household budgets, onion prices have doubled in the past two weeks jumping from Rs. 30-35 per kg around July-end to a shocking Rs. 62-75 per kg now.
The government is providing onions at Rs. 35 per kg, but there are few takers. "The onions were of such poor quality," said Neetu Behera, resident of Geeta Colony.
With unchecked exports taking a bite out of the domestic supply and new crops from the south set to enter Delhi only in September. Prices are set to get much worse.
