Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw on Wednesday apologised after her tweet on Rohan Murty, son of Infosys chairman Narayana Murthy, kicked up a controversy.
“I apologise for this inadvertent and improper tweet on Rohan Murty. I agree it was incorrect to do so,” Shaw wrote on the microblogging site as her tweet praising Rohan Murty’s presentation to the Infosys board gave rise to speculation in the backdrop of the impending retirement of CEO SD Shibulal.
Though Rohan Murty, executive assistant to his father, is widely speculated to be its future chief, the company has dismissed those suggestions, insisting his tenure is coterminous with that of Murthy.
“At recent Infy board meeting I was most impressed by Rohan Murty’s brilliant tech loaded presentation, which will enormously benefit Infy,” Shaw tweeted on Tuesday, triggering a controversy over succession at the Bangalore-based IT company.
However, Infosys made light of the issue. “She had inadvertently voiced her opinion on an internal presentation in a public forum and apologised for her oversight since then,” a spokersperson said. “Members of the chairman’s office make presentations to the board and it is not a new development.”
