Jain, who has already taken up the role of an adviser in the Bharti Group, is also in talks with other executives at Wal-Mart India and is expected to rope in a few of them in his new retail team at Bharti.

Bharti Group confirmed Jain’s appointment but refused to divulge further details. “Raj Jain has been appointed as adviser to Bharti Group,” said a Bharti Group spokesperson. Jain too confirmed his appointment but refused to spell out the details about his role in the company.

“Jain is already in talks with a few of his ex-colleagues at Wal-Mart India in order to bring them over to Bharti Group,” said an industry insider.

In June, Wal-Mart replaced Jain by appointing Ramnik Narsey as the head of its India operations.
