Mukesh Ambani promoted Reliance Jio is growing faster than Facebook, Whatsapp and Skype since it launched in September 2016. While subscribers made more calls than others during the second half of 2016, these were the shortest calls, according to Truecaller’s TrueInsights report.
An average Reliance Jio call lasted 30 seconds, while Vodafone users made the longest calls lasting 41 seconds. Based on this, the report suggests that the Reliance Jio users might be facing call-drop issues with the telecom operator.
The report also analyses differences in calling patterns across regions, with Kolkata users having the longest median call duration of 42.17 seconds and Jammu and Kashmir with shortest call duration of 28.63 seconds.
As per latest data from TRAI, India’s telecom subscriber base grew to over 1.12 billion at end-November 2016. The large number of additions were credited to Reliance Jio. Mukesh Ambani’s company alone added over 16.2 million in month of November taking its total subscriber base to 51.87 million within three months of launching its services.
But when it comes to data usage, Jio is the preferred choice says the report. “The research has found that average data consumption of Jio users is three times more than other telecom operators,” said the report.
An important caveat is that the report is based on data collected from users who have Truecaller installed, and thus it doesn’t necessarily represent the overall telecom market of India.
