The Legal Metrology Department has registered a case against public sector Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for delivering less fuel to dealers, a senior government official said on Thursday.
"Acting on a complaint from petrol dealers, we checked tankers from IOC Vashi terminals and found two tankers were short-filled by 106-litres and 92-litres, each. We filed a case against IOC, Vashi," Konkan Region Legal Metrology Deputy Controller, A M Naik said.
"This is first time in the country that such a case has been registered against a company for short delivery which sent materials locked and sealed," he said.
Earlier, there were many complaints from FAMPEDA, the association of petrol dealers, on short-supply, following which the Legal Metrology conducted raids on calibration centres and found 100 tankers were calibrated defectively, he said, adding, "we closed down the calibration centre and instructed all those tankers to recalibrate again."
But later, another dealer from Navi Mumbai, Gajanand Auto, complained about short-supply, Naik said.
A case has been registered, he said.
