The Jet-Etihad deal brings a bonanza of seats to be opened up under an India-UAE  bilateral pact, which can help the Gulf hub connect about two dozen smaller Indian towns, and could impact domestic rivals of Jet.

Jet has sought 42,000 additional seats a week to Abu Dhabi. It now has 4,500. Indian carriers get a total of 13,300 seats a week for Abu Dhabi.

Aviation ministry officials say a request for 40,000 seats a week has been received from Abu Dhabi.
