The wheel has come a full circle for Suresh Vaswani, the former co-CEO of Wipro, with technology major Dell reposing faith in him to lead its $8 billion (Rs 43,500 crore) global IT services arm, appointing him as its president.
Dell is now more than a computer maker as it becomes a one-stop shop for many computing needs of corporate customers.
Vaswani would report directly to Michael Dell, the chairman and CEO of Dell. Vaswani has previously led the application and BPO business at Dell Services and his elevation as its head catapults him into the limelight in the international IT arena.
"Suresh's deep services expertise and proven track record make him the right leader to continue growing our services business and fuelling our transformation," said Michael Dell.
Interestingly, early last year, Vaswani had an unceremonious exit as Azim Premji-led Wipro's co-CEO when the company abruptly did away with the joint-CEO structure and settled for a leaner organisation that Vaswani and Girish Paranjpe leaving the company. It was widely believed that the co-CEOs suffered because Chairman Premji was unhappy with the company's performance.
However, in his new role the head of Dell Services, Vaswani would manage a business unit whose annual revenues are higher than that of Wipro's $7.3 billion.
The global headcount for Dell Services division is 43,000 and the India head count is 11,000.
Vaswani succeeds Steve Schuckenbrock, who held executive leadership roles at Dell since joining the company in 2007.

"We have the right team and the right strategy in place to help our customers solve their biggest challenges through next generation solutions in support services, security, cloud and infrastructure services, as well as applications and business process outsourcing."
Dell had entered the services arena in 2007 with the $3.9 billion acquisition of Perot Systems.
Since then, the US-based company has been constantly pushing the envelope to increase its presence in the global IT services segment.
