Old games, new gizmos

Think summer holidays, think playing games. But the scorching heat all but rules out action sports such as cricket and soccer.  Of course, you can play digital games in the comfort of cool rooms.

This week, we look at tablets and digital game consoles. Until a few years ago game consoles meant expensive accessories added to a wizard-level computer, but the recent proliferation of tablet devices has dramatically changed the scene. So, let’s look at what keeps the thumb ticking these days. Technology tip for this week

So, which one?

Tablets give a great advantage over portable gaming devices since they allow you to do much more than just play games. On the other hand, game consoles add better portability and battery life, and also let you swap games with other people, building children’s social skills.

Tablet games are much cheaper, with an excess of choices from plain simple word games to highly complex role playing games. With no physical CD or DVD to be bought, it is easy to buy/download games no matter where you are, unlike buying games for a portable gaming console. In the end, what you buy is just a matter of choice. There is more to be said on the subject, which we will.
