Sensex rebounds by 320 pts to end at 2-week high of 17,749.65

The BSE Sensex improved further by 48 points in early trade during a special session on Saturday on sustained buying support from investors, mainly in metal, auto, FMCG and PSU counters.

The BSE 30-share index, Sensex, resumed higher at 17,701.07 and hovered in a narrow range of 17,735.99 and 17,694.83 before quoting at 17,732.06 at 1130 hrs, a net gain of 48.33 points, or 0.27%, from its last close.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also moved up by 9.85 points, or 0.18%, to 5,351.95 at 1130 hrs.

Major gainers were Cipla (1.98%), Sterlite Inds (1.14%), Jindal Steel (1.04%) and Tata Power (0.83%).

However, Bhel fell by (1.66%) and Bharti Airtel moved down by (0.68%).

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 502.17 crore on Friday, as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.

Both the stock exchanges, BSE and NSE, are holding a one-and-half hours special trading session from 1115 hrs to 1245 hrs as the BSE is testing its disaster recovery site.
