According to sources, suspecting tax evasion, the officials of the I-T investigation wing, Hyderabad, conducted the operation in the morning at GMR's offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The I-T officials have taken documents related to transactions as well as tax deduction at source (TDS) of the company in their possession for a further probe. "We're going through the documents and it is too early at this stage to comment on them," a source said.

The company is present in sectors including aviation, energy, highways and urban infrastructure. Besides operating the existing Delhi international airport, it has also built the new integrated terminal (T3), which was commissioned during the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

"I-T department officials came to some of our offices in the morning to check our books and we are extending all possible assistance to the team," said a spokesperson of the GMR Group, without revealing further details.
