Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Group, on Wednesday said he was “deeply touched” for being one of five foreign nationals to be honoured by Queen Elizabeth with the GBE (Knight Grand Cross) in 2014.

Tata, who was conferred the KBE (Knight Bachelor) honour in 2009, has been recognised “for services to UK/India relations, inward investment to the UK and philanthropy.”

Tata said in a statement: “It has been a privilege to endeavour to have our enterprises contribute positively to the growth and standing of the UK. I am also deeply appreciative of the support we have always received personally from Mr. David Cameron and his government, through good and bad times”.

The Tata Group’s engagement with Britain and its companies include Jaguar Land Rover, which it took over in 2008.

Tata said: “But none of what we have been able to achieve could ever have been possible without the unflinching trust, commitment and dedication of the people within our enterprises in the UK. I admittedly have been most closely associated with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) where I have witnessed the tremendous leadership and impressive spirit of the workforce”.
