The government announced on Tuesday a fresh set of incentives to help exports of about 2,000 products as trade officials pushed for continuation of a state-assisted support system to nurse the export sector to strong health.

“We considered it necessary to provide further support especially to those products for which exports are still not doing well,” Sharma said.

The sectoral package includes expansion of the Focused Product Scheme (FPS) and Special FPS under which exporters are given 2 to 3 per cent incentives.

Sharma also said he has recommended to the finance ministry to allow exporters to raise cheaper overseas credit and continue to with the interest subsidy of 2 per cent provided to labour incentive sectors such as textiles and handicrafts.

The government also announced inclusion of China and Japan in the market linked focused programme under which exports to specified countries are provided sops.

Sharma said the package would be borne by the internal budget of the commerce ministry and would not strain the overall fiscal situation.
