Stan Shih, the founder of Taiwanese computing giant Acer, officially launched this week a Chinese Consumer Center.
Located in Taiwan, it will be dedicated to understanding Chinese living trends and is a joint venture of Shih and Bernd Schmitt, a professor of International Business at the Columbia Business School in New York.
It will devote itself to focused research and development, the results of which will be shared with other companies to inform their future product lines and with the public to foster greater understanding of the Chinese community, not just within the region, but globally.
"Taiwan is quite competitive in terms of technology development, but we lack technological applications," Shih said at the press conference to launch the center."We need to develop our own brands, which will require deeper understanding of customers," he said.
By looking beyond their own industries and by incorporating greater understanding of customer insight, lifestyle and values, the goal is for Taiwanese businesses to optimize future product development.
