The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has asked the government to initiate criminal proceedings against oil and gas sector regulator V.K. Sibal for “defamation and character assassination”.
“Director General of Hydrocarbon’s (DGH) allegations against ADAG are irresponsible, absurd and baseless,” a letter to home secretary G.K. Pillai and cabinet secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar by ADAG-controlled Reliance Natural Resources Ltd (RNRL) said.
“Sibal has made this highly frivolous and unseemly statement after the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) asked the CBI to launch a probe into the personal favours he had received from (Mukesh Ambani managed) Reliance Industries in lieu of granting approval for the artificially inflated KG-D6 capex as well as other private sector companies.”
ADAG’s letter was in response to Sibal’s letters to the home and petroleum ministries on Tuesday seeking protection. The DGH had said he feared a threat to his life and his family members from the industrial house.
Sibal refused to comment on the warning, saying he had already informed the government about the “witch-hunt” launched by Anil Ambani’s group.
ADAG also challenged Sibal to bring on record anything to support his “wild allegations”.
