Network18 Group and US-based A&E Television Networks have formed a joint venture company, AETN-18 India. The move marks Network18 Group’s consolidation in the niche channel space wherein it already has Colors, MTV, VH1, Nick, HomeShop18.
The company will soon unveil the timelines for the launches.
Network18 Group will hold 51 per cent stake while AETN will hold the remaining. The join venture will launch History India, Bio and other popular AETN channels in the Indian market.
Network18 recently forayed into the TV distribution space through a pioneering distribution alliance with the Sun Group and the pan-India distribution company is slated to emerge as one of the country’s largest distribution entities.
“India presents us with strong growth opportunities for AETN’s global portfolio strategy and is an important market. We believe that in Network18, we’ve found the best partner for launching AETN’s brands,” said Abbe Raven, president and CEO, AETN.
AETN operates two of the top five Pay TV networks — History and A&E in the US — and Lifetime, the number one women’s network.
