Tech giant Apple and online retailer Amazon both were, unsurprisingly, very successful on this past Black Friday with sales of the Kindle Fire being particularly strong, according to preliminary reports that have been released or leaked.
A November 28 press release by Amazon described Black Friday as the "best yet for the Kindle family" and claimed that on November 25 sales of Kindle Devices increased by 4X compared to the previous Black Friday.
Apple's preliminary Black Friday sales figures are also looking impressive according to an internal document leaked to site 9to5Mac on November 27.
According to the leaked sales figures and an inside source quoted on 9to5Mac Apple broke "retail sales records," surpassing the expected 400 percent increase in trade by as early as 7pm on November 25; however the breakdown of sales per item has not been released.
Numerous analysts including Nielsen and Interperience predicted that Apple products and Amazon's range of Kindles would be successful this year. One Nielsen survey revealed that among American children aged 6-12 and 13+, the iPad was the most desired 'consumer electronic gadget.'
The results of Cyber Monday sales could also help decide the battle between Apple's iPad and Amazon's Kindle Fire; however with both companies famously coy about their sales figures it is unlikely a clear winner will emerge in the coming weeks.
This year Americans are estimated to have spent a record $52.4 billion over the Thanksgiving weekend, according to the National Retail Federation.
