French company Areva on Monday signed a €7-billion deal with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for the construction of two nuclear reactors — the first in a series of six — and supply of uranium fuel.

Areva, in partnership with NPCIL, plans to build six nuclear EPR reactors of 1,650 MW each, with the first one slated to come up at Jaitapur in Maharashtra in 2018, said Areva CEO, Anne Lauvergeon.

She said the financial details of the deal were yet to be fully worked out.
