Another top Infosys executive quits; 11th such exit

Barely a week after CEO-frontrunner and board member BG Srinivas resigned, another senior executive and Infosys long-timer has put in his papers: Prasad Thrikutam, senior vice-president and global head of strategic sales, marketing and alliances, resigned on Thursday after spending 19 years with the company.

Thrikutam is the 11th senior executive to leave in the 12 months since founder NR Narayana Murthy was brought back as executive chairman by Infosys, which has been lagging peers in revenue growth in recent years.

"Prasad Thrikutam has decided to pursue interests outside of Infosys," the Infosys spokesperson said. "We thank him for his contribution to the company and wish him the best for his future endeavors."

She said board member Pravin Rao will manage Prasad's portfolio for the time being.

The spate of exits is seen as a direct fallout of Infosys' high-profile global search for a new CEO. Incumbent SD Shibulal's tenure ends in January, but he has expressed a desire to depart early.

The company is evaluating its senior executives for future leadership roles when the new CEO comes, and according to sources, only six of 12 senior executives were shortlisted for such roles.

Infosys sources said Murthy's son Rohan wields huge influence as executive assistant to his father, and this has created heartburn among seniors.

"Maybe a perceived lack of opportunity after changes in organisational restructuring is one reason why people leave Infosys," said Dipen Shah, head of research, private client group, Kotak Securities. "But it will have a short term impact. It has already affected revenues. But medium to long term the company has the potential to recover."
