The best time to buy your choice four-wheeler is coming up. Manufacturers, fighting a protracted slowdown and seeking to end the year on a high, are lining up discounts and offers to woo buyers in the last fortnight of the year.
December is the month when consumers traditionally stay away from the market, as buying a car in this month affects its resale value, which is calculated on the basis of the year of production. However, thanks to high discounts and freebies, the December phobia has been declining over the years, and the month has started to see maximum growth in sales.
This year average discounts are expected in the range of Rs 25,000-40,000, but can even top Rs 1 lakh in some cases. Except for new launches such as Honda Amaze and Ford EcoSport, every other car is available at a bargain.
"Historically December is a weak month as the resale value of the cars is somewhat lower. That is the reason why discounts are generally high during this month anyway," said Pravin Shah, chief executive, automotive division, Mahindra and Mahindra.
"Most manufacturers are also raising prices next month and discounts would be curtailed as well. This makes December perhaps the best time to buy a car," he added.
