Anil Ambani’s Reliance Power Ltd (RPL) has decided to kick start the process of awarding contracts for equipment supplies to its power project at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.
Sources close to the group revealed that RPL will shortly float a Rs 15,000 crore global tender for selection of EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor supplying equipment for two of its gas-based power projects at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and Shahpur in Maharashtra.
RPL spokesperson confirmed the move but refused to share further details. However, it has been reliably learnt that the tenders would be floated sometimes this week.
Asked how RPL can float EPC tenders when the matter is still before the Supreme Court, the source said the decision is based on the favourable Mumbai High Court’s June 15 order asking Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) to supply 28 million standard cubic meters of gas per day at $2.34 per unit to Anil’s natural gas firm, Reliance Natural Resources Ltd.
“All the vital clearances and approvals for these projects are in place. Pending the outcome of Supreme Court, RPL is on its way to finalise the EPC contractor to enable immediate commencement of construction on these projects once bankable gas supply agreement is executed,” an official close to RPL said.
Moreover, he said that the High Court order, despite requests by RIL, has not been stayed by the Supreme Court.
