Farmers on rampage at Reliance SEZ site

A group of farmers and their families including women stoned the earthmoving machines and attempted to burn a Haryana Roadways bus near the site of the Reliance Social Economic Zones (SEZ) in Gurgaon on Wednesday.

The farmers were opposing the earthwork initiated by Reliance staff at the site.

The police rounded up a dozen of people including women for some time.

The police also rounded up a couple of women who threatened to self immolate with the kerosene thye were carrying when the police tried to arrest them for attacking the Haryana Roadways bus.

It all began on Wednesday morning, when a group of youths from village Harsaru started pelting stones on the workers at SEZ site.

The youth inflated tyres of JCB machine and also a state roadways bus.

Then reached a group of women, who attempted to torch the bus and set a number of seats on fire.

Later the police registered criminal cases against a number of unknown persons for damaging public property.
