The government should take steps like enhancing vocational education and setting up a national skills exchange so that India has a trained workforce of 500 million more by 2022 for sustained GDP growth, industry group Ficci has said in a report.
Skills and technical education capacity to about 15 million, with 12 million expected to join the workforce every year, the report said.
A national skills exchange would help both employers and employees by providing details on specific demands, as well as identify locations where skilled workforce exists, it pointed out.
India has an estimated workforce, including the unorganised sector, of 457 million.
The report also said auto and component, real estate, healthcare, textiles and IT are among the 20 sectors that would drive the growth of the economy as well as play a significant role in generating employment.
