Budget carrier SpiceJet’s market stimulation strategy is paying rich dividends. For the third successive month, the Ajay Singh-promoted airline reported the highest passenger load factors among domestic airlines.
Load factor is used to assess how efficiently an airline filled its available seats.
The Gurgaon-based SpiceJet had load factors of 93.2% during the month of June. Its load factors stood at 93.1% and 88.7% during the last two months.
Industry experts said the airline averaging 90% load factors was an indication that passenger confidence was back in the airline.
“SpiceJet has got the right strategy in place. Its operations have completely stabilised and it is flying full planes. This is a testimony that the airline has regained passenger’s confidence,” aviation expert Rajji Rai said.
“We are happy that consumer confidence in SpiceJet is returning. Even in traditionally weak months, we are flying with a load in excess of 90%,” Singh told HT.
Vistara had the lowest load factor at 59.3%. It, however, had the best on-time performance of 95.6% among domestic airlines operating at all four metros.
Domestic air passenger traffic grew by 19.81% in the first six months of 2015 with airlines carrying 388.33 lakh passengers.
