Hospital chain Fortis Healthcare on Thursday said it has registered a net profit of 6.8 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 2008.
The company had a net loss of 6.83 crore in the December quarter of 2007, Fortis Healthcare said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
Total income of the company stood at Rs 161.06 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2008 against Rs 121.55 crore recorded in the year ago period.
The company is in the process of preparing draft for Rs 1,000 crore rights issue which it would submit to the market regulator Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) by middle of next month.
"We are expecting to close the rights issue by the end of June this year," Fortis Healthcare CFO Yogesh Sareen said.
He however declined to give any guidance for the whole fiscal but said, the company expects to close the fiscal with positive profit after tax (PAT).
Shares of the company closed at Rs 66.35, up 3.19 per cent on the BSE.
