If you don't have more than one LPG connection per address and have still got a Know Your Customer (KYC) form from the company supplying you with the cooking gas cylinders, do not bother. You can safely ignore the request without fear of losing the connection.

The three leading public sector oil companies have admitted to Hindustan Times that many customers who do not possess multiple connections may have still got KYC forms but clarified that there was no obligation for all to fill them.

"Such customers need not worry as this nationwide exercise of filling KYC forms is only for consumers having more than one connection per household," said a senior company official.

"Out of 14.5 crore of LPG consumers, we are trying to weed out 2.6 crore connections that we suspect are multiple connections," he added. "In the process, if KYC forms have reached those who do not fall under this category, they can simply ignore it."

The government has extended the deadline to submit the KYC forms by LPG consumers to their distributors to December 31.

The drive to weed out multiple connections at same address follow a decision by the government in September to cap the supply of subsidised LPG to six cylinders per household in a year.

Following the drive to eliminate multiple connections, oil firms are implementing the policy of 'one household, one connection' and have asked consumers to voluntarily give up additional connections.

Under the new regime, multiple LPG connections in the 'same name and at the same address' as well as 'husband and wife' owning separate connections at the same address would be summarily disconnected.

In case of multiple connections at the same address under different names, distributors have been asked to collect KYC forms to verify the genuine users.

Consumers have to provide details such as name, date of birth, father's name, mother's name, spouse's name and complete address and also an optional information about bank details. They have to submit self-attested photocopies of address and ID proof along with the filled in form.

New subsidised LPG connections will be issued after completion of KYC formalities.
