Head of IT firm held for duping staff

business Updated: Jan 01, 2009 00:23 IST

The Gurgaon police have arrested the managing director of an IT firm and one of its executives for swindling the security deposits and salaries of employees.

As many as eight employees of this company have filed complaints with the Udyog Vihar police station, that the officials would harass them and refused to repay the money.

The investigating officer at Udyog Vihar police station, Daya Ram, said the MD of E-ware Technologies, Rajiv Nagpal, and HR executive Shalu Sharma were arrested on December 30 and booked under 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC.

SK Yadav, the father of one of the affected employees, Atul Yadav, said his son had joined the company as a software engineer on July 7 this year after depositing a security deposit of Rs 50,000.

“My son however, fell ill after two weeks of working with the company and could not resume his job. But when he approached the company to ask the security deposit back, the company refused to oblige and turned him away. Several visits made by me also proved to be futile. I had no other option but to approach the police for their help in this matter,” Yadav added.

Ram said Nagpal was remanded to police custody for two days while Sharma was granted bail by a local court.

“A number of employees have approached us and alleged the company had refused to refund Rs 50,000 refundable security deposit and were harassing them on one pretext or the other. The accused, however, claimed innocence saying that the employees would go absent for months together. The accused said that they had informed many of the employees to take back their money but they never turned up,” the officer said.
