With the summer season upon us, leading hotels across the country are coming up with discounts and innovative schemes to beat the heat. The primary reason is to contain occupancy levels that drop by 20-25 per cent from April to September every year.
The schemes to attract customers range from a flat 20 per cent discount in rates to specially created weekend or Independence Day packages to free unlimited Internet use to even an on-the-house bottle of beer every evening. The percentage of discount increases in hotels located in tourist places like Agra and Khajuraho, which are adversely affected by the summer season.
Taking an innovative step, Radisson Hotel in Delhi is providing free unlimited Internet and Wi-Fi services to all its resident guests during their stay at the hotel. As per the scheme, the guests get broadband Internet and Wi-Fi connection on an unlimited 24 hours round-the-clock basis during their stay at the hotel.
"Providing this service free of cost facilitates our customers business. Such value additions are necessary to not only retain our customer base but also help us expand the market further," said Jaydeep Chakrabarti, Director Sales and Marketing, Radisson Hotel Delhi.
Under the summer bonanza, guests at the hotel will also be entitled to customized benefits worth Rs.1000 per night in terms of hotel services. The amount can be used against food and beverage, spa, laundry, business services or any other service offered by the hotel, except room rent and travel desk services.
Leading hotel chain Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces is offering a 20 per cent discount on room rates in its various city hotels. For instance, this has brought down its rates from Rs 18,000 to Rs 14,000 per night in Delhi. It even has a special package for the Independence Day in August for Rs 15,999 for a 2-night 3-day stay. The package also includes daily breakfast and a day trip to Agra. The Group has even come up with a newly redesigned website enabling you to craft your own dream holiday during the summer as per your requirement.
The Claridges Hotels and Resorts has brought out a special package for the weekend wherein you can check in on Friday/Saturday and check out on Sunday/Monday. The package is priced at Rs 6,999 for a deluxe room and includes daily breakfast. "With city hotels registering an occupancy of only 70 per cent during the summer, schemes have to be announced to arrest that trend," said a spokesperson of the hotel.
The discount schemes extend to the growing tribe of business hotels as well. "Though we do not face the kind of crunch that other hotels face, we make it up by customizing packages for guests as well as travel agents on a case to case basis," said Rajnish Malhotra, General Manager, Park Plaza Gurgaon.
Definitely, the best time to book a hotel, provided you can actually beat the heat!
