Secretary, department of electronics and information technology RS Sharma was on Monday appointed chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).
His posting as Trai chairman comes at a time when concerns over net neutrality and growing menace of call drops are at their peak. Among the top priorities for Sharma, will be coming out with recommendations for the former. “I have just got the information, I will speak in detail later,” Sharma told HT.
The 1978 batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand will be succeeding Rahul Khullar, who retired on May 14, as the seventh chairman of the telecom regulator.
Sharma played a key role in implementation of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). He was the director general and mission director of the scheme.
