Finding links between the economic meltdown and the problem of global warming, Union Minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday said investing in clean energies is the solution for both the challenges that have roots in the energy crisis.
Inaugurating an international conference on combating challenges of climate change the Union Minister for Science and Technology said the problem of global warming cannot be dealt with unless a solution is found to the energy crisis.
"I was in Davos recently where the global community discussed ways to break out of the economic meltdown. We found direct links between the crisis and global warming.
"The only way out, we found, was investing in new and clean technologies" that will prevent deterioration of the climate and put back on track the oil-dependent economies, Sibal said.
"It is imperative that we design and build our cities in accordance with the new requirements that focus on a shift away from traditional sources of energy," he said.
"As the developed world finds difficult to change its lifestyle to combat climate change, we are fortunate that we are yet to build our cities," he said.
