KPO salaries: Some case studies in growth

business Updated: Aug 02, 2007 00:29 IST

Typically, a professional who has four or five years of education can earn between Rs. 3.5 lakhs to and Rs. 5 lakhs per year in total compensation (including salary and bonus) to begin with and then receive an average annual increase between 12 per cent and 20 per cent on an on-going basis. Of course, the actual yearly increase depends primarily upon the individual performance and domain expertise that this professional has.

Given below are examples of career profiles of a few high-performing KPO professionals, who chose to build their careers in the same company over a period of three or more years rather than job hopping from one company to another:

A joined in Business Research after finishing an engineering degree three years ago with an annual compensation of approximately Rs. 4 lakhs, and now earns Rs. 8.6 lakhs per year. Equally importantly, this professional who is about 25-years-old directly interacts with clients worldwide, manages a team of around ten people, has visited client sites abroad four times in three years, and also got an international posting recently to grow the company's business research team in Latin America.

B joined in the Intellectual Property Research division of a KPO firm after finishing an engineering degree four years ago with an annual compensation of Rs. 4.2 lakhs and now earns Rs. 12 lakhs annually, manages a group of 45-50 intellectual property professionals, interacts with clients worldwide, and has visited client sites abroad five times in three years.

C joined Intellectual Property Research in a KPO firm directly after completing a Master's degree in life-sciences, and within three years was managing a team of over 40 IP researchers and earning more than Rs. 10 lacs annually, and within 5 years got a permanent international posting as a client engagement-cum-research manager in the United States.

D joined after doing a Master's degree in life sciences and later spending five years in an IT services company in India. Within four years, this person is managing a team of approximately 75 professionals, earning approximately Rs. 20 lakhs per annum and goes once or twice a year to the US and Europe to help sales people develop their businesses.
