“India is an extremely important market to Lavazza’s international operations and strategic to our overall growth initiatives. Thus, the company will not move back from this,” Lavazza spokesperson said in an email interview.

At present, Lavazza has 180 stores in the country and is looking at increasing its footprint.

“In our café segment, we are looking at a three-fold rise in the revenue contribution from India over the next three years. Today India contributes about 3-4% of Lavazza’s turnover. Our aim is to grow it to 10%,” the spokesperson said. There are plans to scale up its premium Crème, which was being test-marketed in Delhi.

“Our strategy is to open cafes where there are profitable opportunities,” the spokesperson said without disclosing the number of Crème stores planned, adding: “This lounge format is a more premium form of Lavazza. At present, there are 10 Crème outlets in India,” the spokesperson added.
