The benchmark Sensex gained for the eight straight session on Tuesday, the longest winning streak this year, adding 43 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange following sustained buying by funds in heavyweight stocks.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also rose by 4.50 points at 4,479.25, after peaking to 4,501.30 and touching a low of 4,460.40 points.

Major support to the market came in from realty, healthcare and capital goods segment stocks. Realty index rose the most by 136.98 points at 7,462.48, followed by healthcare index by 49.03 points at 3,680.36. Capital goods index rose by 43.83 points at 13,632.61.

Marketmen said the sentiment was firm but a bank holiday for Janmashtmi reduced the volume of business. They said some of the bankers were absent from the market for the holiday.
