India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Monday increased prices of diesel variants of models such as Ritz, Swift, SX4 and Dzire between Rs 2,000 and Rs 10,000 citing increased cost of inputs and the sinking rupee.

The company however left its petrol models untouched, primarily due to low demand. Most of the firm's petrol models are carrying huge discounts as the demand has shifted dramatically towards diesel models due to frequent petrol price increases this year.

"Prices of the diesel variant of the Ritz has been increased by Rs 2000 while for the SX4, Dzire and Swift, it is Rs 10,000." said a company spokesperson.

"Besides higher input costs, the yen (Japanese currency) has appreciated substantially making import of our components dearer," he said.

Before this hike, the diesel version of the Ritz was priced between Rs 4.93 lakh and Rs 5.29 lakh. Swift is priced at Rs 5.17 lakh-Rs 6.38 lakh range.

While the DZiRE is priced at Rs 5.86 lakh-Rs 7.20 lakh, SX4 is available between Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 9.01 lakh.
