Maruti reduces energy consumption by 26%

Maruti Udyog Ltd says it has brought down overall energy consumption at its Gurgaon facility by as much as 26 per cent per vehicle.

Car market leader Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) on Monday said it has brought down overall energy consumption at its Gurgaon facility by as much as 26 per cent per vehicle over the last six years.

The company has adopted various innovative measures to build a clean operational base and has not only brought down power consumption but also reduced consumption of water and waste generated in car manufacturing, MUL said in a statement on the eve of World Environment Day.

MUL has achieved a 31 per cent reduction in power consumption while water consumption per vehicle has declined by 63 per cent over the past six years. Waste generation has come down by 67 per cent over this period, the statement said.

It said carbon dioxide emissions (during manufacturing) per vehicle have also been brought down by over 39 per cent in the last five years.

The company said it has worked in collaboration with its suppliers to implement innovative environment-friendly practices and the overall proficiency in operations is much higher.
