Mkts down, Sensex ends lower by 169 pts

The markets ended in red on Tuesday with the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex losing nearly 169 points following emergence of profit selling in heavyweight stocks, especially the metal shares, on concerns over the rising steel prices.
The 30-share Sensex, which gained 424 points in the Monday's trading, lost 169.46 points at 15,587.62.
The index touched the day's high of 15,770.40 and low of 15,479.42 points.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also fell by 51.55 points at 4,709.65, after touching a low of 4,677.80 and a high of 4,769.55 points.
Metal index suffered the most by losing 266.98 points at 13,544.58, followed by consumer durable index by 227.09 points at 12,529.84.
Oil and gas index fell by 87.25 points at 10,462.87 and realty index by 73.34 points at 7410.22.
Information technology index fell by 63.50 points at 3685.07, teck index by 33.04 points at 3069.40, PSU index by 28.92 points at 7240.22 and auto index by 18.61 points at 4415.37.
However, bank index gained 48.72 points at 7952.81 and capital goods index by 12.39 points at 3926.27. Midcap index gained by 38.30 points at 6383.02 and smallcap index by 36.23 points at 7814.17.
